Gwyneth Paltrow Explains Her Spider-Man Goof And It Doesn't Help

The Politician star revisited forgetting she was in Homecoming during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

Gwyneth Paltrow has tried to explain the widely-publicised brain freeze a few months ago in which she forgot her role in Spider-Man: Homecoming during a US television interview on Wednesday night.

The Oscar-winning actor, who was visiting Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show, appeared on Jon Favreau’s cooking show in June.

When Jon brought up the topic of the 2017 superhero adventure, Gwyneth seemed to have no clue she acted in the film, despite reminders from Jon, who had a role in it as well.

Gwyneth insisted she was not in the movie, and winded up sparking a social media frenzy in the process.

Asked about the gaffe during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! – as seen in the clip above – she was finally able to have her say.

“I just got confused,” she admitted. “There’s so many of these wonderful Marvel interconnecting movies and I thought that it was an Avengers movie, but it was not.”

The host then asked Gwyneth if Spider-Man himself, played by Tom Holland, was offended by her mistake.

“I never actually saw the movie,” Gwyneth replied. “I mean, wait, cut that out! Take that back!”

Oh dear.

Having previously appeared in films like Shakespeare In Love, Sliding Doors and Emma, Gwyneth joined would would become known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008, playing Pepper Potts opposite Robert Downey Jr.

She went on to appear in the role on seven different occasions, most recently in Avengers: Endgame.

Gwyneth is currently starring as Georgina Hobart in Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix show The Politician, which was co-produced by her husband, Ryan Falchuk.
