Downing Street has reportedly refused to comment on the news the prime minister has hired a 'smoking, drinking, shoplifting' Australian backpacker as a nanny for his three children.
Sammi Strange reportedly landed the high-profile job after a series of Skype interviews with David and Samantha Cameron. She will have charge of Nancy, eight, Arthur, six, and Florence, 19 months.
Sammi, who is from Melbourne, had signed up with a nannying agency after quitting her job in advertising to go backpacking - she then got the call to be interviewed for the position with the Camerons!
Stories then started to break about her online escapades, with the The Mirror and many other papers claiming that on a social networking site survey, the 24-year-old 'fessed up to shoplifting, smoking and drinking, but denied taking drugs 'in the past month'. In answer to the question 'do you swear', the former advertising sales assistant replied: "F*** yeah."
Sammi is said to be providing temporary childcare cover for the Camerons while their usual nanny is aboard. Her dad, David, spoke with pride about his daughter's new job, but admitted that Sammi was worried about the publicity it could attract. He also said that he hoped her appointment could lead to her marrying into the Royal family!
"I'm hoping she might marry Prince Harry," he joked, "But I couldn't afford the wedding."
