A headteacher in California caused outrage among parents for ordering students to kneel before him throughout the day.
The Mail reports that principal Dana Carter from the Calimesa Elementary School introduced the 'safety policy' which required students to go down on one knee until they were told they could stand.
When parents got wind of it, the school district authority was forced to tell the head to stop the procedure.
One mum said that she felt the principal 'wants to be like a king, and we don't have kings in America'.
School district officials in San Bernardino County announced on Tuesday that kids at Calimesa Elementary School will no longer have to 'take a knee' at various times during the day because of the number of complaints they received from parents.
Carter has only been in his position for three months, and is said to have instituted the kneeling policy as a safety measure.
In a flyer handed out to parents, it was stated that making the children drop down on one knee before classes and after break time enforced safety in 'a positive way'.
Mr Carter is reportedly now planning to meet with parents to talk about alternative safety measures.
