Henning Berg Sacked As Blackburn Rovers Manager After 57 Days

Berg Sacked After Just 57 Days At Blackburn

Henning Berg has been sacked as Blackburn Rovers manager after just 57 days in charge.

The club's owners the Venky's confirmed Berg's departure after the Boxing Day loss to Middlesbrough left the 1995 Premier League winners languishing in 17th place.

Berg, who managed the club for 10 games, won just one match away at Peterborough United in mid-November and his departure was confirmed by an Indian newspaper before Rovers did.

A short statement read:

Blackburn Rovers FC has announced the departure of manager Henning Berg, assistant manager Eric Black, first team coach Iain Brunskill and goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms with immediate effect.

This decision has been taken following a very disappointing sequence of results.

The club thanks the four men for their efforts and wishes them every success for the future.

Sporting director Balaji Rao confirmed Berg's exit before the club did

Berg, who signed a three-year deal in October, said earlier this year it would be "madness" to work under the Venky's.

"To work as a manager for a club you need the right owners and to take over as a manager in a club (Blackburn) with owners like that is madness," Berg told talkSPORT in May.

The Norwegian's former teammate and ex-Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has been earmarked for a return to Ewood Park but that offers supporters disenchanted with the running of the club under the soul-sapping Venky's further cause for concern.

Hughes' agent is Kia Joorabchian, who is partly responsible for the astronomical £6.8m Queens Park Rangers shelled out in agents' fees this year. Blackburn meanwhile have been associated with supposed agent skullduggery since Jerome Anderson advised the Venky's on their 2010 takeover.

Berg is the third Rovers boss to be fired after Sam Allardyce and Steve Kean. Allardyce was sacked less than a month after the Venky's had completed their takeover and had promised him funds in the 2011 January transfer window.
