‘Classic Blue’ has been unveiled as Pantone’s colour of the year for 2020 – a relaxing shade where royal blue meets navy.

The subdued hue marks a stark contrast to 2019′s bright choice – “living coral” – but still takes its inspiration from mother nature.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, said the shade is designed to be “evocative of the vast evening sky”.

“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith,” she said. “It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable hue we can always rely on.

“Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”
