Hurrah for designer Huishan Zhang for scooping up this year's Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize last night! The man done good, breathtakingly-beautiful ready-to-wear-it-all kind of good.
The Ballroom at The Dorchester on Park Lane was the perfect venue for the fashion prize grand final which celebrates emerging fashion talents and champions one winner for their standard of creative flair.
There in the lap of luxury, team MyDaily sipped at Laurent-Perrier champagne and nibbled at smokedsalmon blinis with crème fresh and keta caviar prior to the catwalk show.
The four shortlisted designers - Emilia Wickstead, Huishan Zhang, Fyodor Golan and Barbara Casasola - showcased their collections and thank gaawd we didn't have to make the final decision because we LOVED them all.
We caught up with Huishan - a Central Saint Martins grad in case you were wondering - to get the low-down post his big win...
Congratulations! How does it feel knowing that you were awarded this year's Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize?
It feels fantastic, I was delighted when they called my name at the ceremony. Winning the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize is great recognition on an international stage, it really encourages me in what I'm doing.
How do you plan to spend the prize money?
The money is just part of the support I've received as a result of winning the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize. I'll be spending it on furthering the brand in all the ways that were appreciated by the judging panel, like our focus on luxury and innovation.
Have you started working on your next collection and can you share the concept behind it?
Yes and as always I am inspired by the blending of my Chinese heritage with modern, western elements. I think the work so far, for the new season, is really celebrating this in a new, very gracious way. The inspiration has come together so naturally and I'm feeling very excited.
What kind of woman wears your label?
The Huishan Zhang woman is an international woman, she is well-travelled and cultured and understands luxury and craftsmanship. She wants to see and experience all the best and most beautiful things the world can offer.
What is the ultimate goal for your brand and achieving ongoing commercial success?
I'd like Huishan Zhang to be a lifestyle brand, to offer a complete wardrobe for the contemporary woman. Modern, international women really appreciate luxury and craftsmanship, and that's an ageless value to build on.
