George Michael has said he is "perfectly fine" after describing new allegations about drug taking as ''highly inaccurate''.
The story, which appeared in a Sunday newspaper, is ''incorrect'' and the matter is ''now in the hands of Mr Michael's lawyers'', the star's spokeswoman said.
Michael, who had not tweeted for two weeks, posted on his Twitter account: "To my lovelies, do not believe this rubbish in the papers today by someone I don't know any more and haven't seen for nearly 18 years.
"I am perfectly fine and enjoyed Wimbledon like the rest of you. Wish it went to five sets though!
"Lots of love, The Singing Greek xxx"
In a statement, his spokeswoman said: "We refer to reports that have appeared in today's newspapers concerning George Michael.
"Whilst it is our general policy not to comment on private matters, we would in this instance note that these highly inaccurate stories have been apparently provided to the press by the wife of a very distant family member, neither of whom has had any dealings with him for many many years.
"It is therefore unsurprising that they are so incorrect. Beyond this we have no further comment to make as the matter is now in the hands of Mr Michael's lawyers."
Michael retweeted a post by Sam Smith.
The Stay With Me singer posted a picture of Michael in his younger days and wrote, alongside a heart symbol: "Listening to my favourite today."
In his retweet, Michael wrote: "Love you too."
Michael - whose real name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou - nearly died from pneumonia in late 2011.
After receiving treatment in a Vienna hospital, Michael made a tearful appearance outside his London home and said it had been ''touch and go'' whether he lived.
Doctors had performed a tracheotomy to keep his airways open and he was unconscious for some of his spell in hospital.
