Christmas has come early for on-air blunder fans, with Radio 5 Live's Mark Chapman falling for an absolute cracker of a prank last Saturday during his 606 football phone in show.
Around an hour into the programme, at about 7.15pm, Chapman started reading out some tweets that had been sent in about that weekend's football.
Reading out the Twitterer's name, Chapman began: “I McHunt says Alex Ferguson…
A deathly pause.
"...oh no.”
If Chapman was in BBC Broadcasting House, he could have just brushed it off and carried on. But he wasn't in BBC Broadcasting House - he was in BBC’s Philharmonic Studio in Salford, Manchester, complete with live audience.
A live audience who prompted erupted into shrieks of laughter.
“Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Oh no. I apologise to everybody listening," said Chapman. "You’ve got me – it’s the oldest one in the book. Seriously though, I’m not even facing you lot at the moment because I’ve gone so red."
And as a great testament to the great British sense of humour, not one person has rung in to complain, reports the BBC.
