If there's one thing you can guarantee from being in the company of our Webstival Headliners IC1s, it's that they're always going to keep you very entertained.
Being their usual roguish selves, they were a brilliant addition to our experience of the Olympic Park this summer. Despite having to turn a blind eye to the misplaced smoking, the pissing-in-the-rivergate scandal, and the fact you had to pray no expletives would escape their mouths on stage; they were some of the best company you could ever wish for.
The interview we filmed with them after their set was something of a giggle, and we realised that the lads had just as good a time at the Games as we did.
But what happened for them once London 2012 came to a close? We tracked them down to find out...
So, what have you been up to since performing at the Emerging Icons stage in the Olympic Park?
Dan - It's been quite scary. For a band that already had more confidence than Liam Gallagher snorting John Lennon, our hunger has grown to a level that if we don't eat success soon we will starve. So we got ourselves into the studio, recorded an EP that we made so strong, that when Liam is on a come down... he'll have to snort it!
How has playing such high profile gigs over the summer affected your approach moving forward?
JJ - Our fans, our friends, our mums... they are all amazed by it. As soon as you drop the Olympic bomb in conversation you gotta start handing out the gold medals for all the arse licking.
Not from our mums though, that's fucking weird. Freak.
How did your fans react to news of your gigs in the park? What did they think of the content and reviews on Emerging Icons?
Andy - Performing at the Games was a real honour. We're all from London so it was great to be a part of it. We uploaded a couple of photos of us playing it on the day and were surprised by how big the response was online. It got a lot of people talking. Our fans are used to seeing us in nightclubs and venues so it was a little different from usual. I'm just relieved we evaded the dope testing. We've got some great reviews from the site from industry folk and Pete Donaldson and Sarah Champion have played us on Absolute Radio. So all in all, it's been pretty fucking fantastic.
Did you get any feedback or positive comments from new fans who saw you perform at the Games?
Dan - The feedback was instant. When I announced on the mic if "Anyone wanted a CD" to come grab one, the whole crowd, without fuss, queued up backstage and around the block. The best was signing a CD for a 7 year old kid and behind her was a 20-year-old man wanting the same. We now have CDs in Spain, Poland and Kathmandu! Great feeling- felt like we won gold that day for sure.
Have played any gigs since? If so, which venues and where?
JJ - We're in the middle of recording a four track EP, you are the first to be told about this so consider yourself very special indeed! We did two singles on Gary Powell's label towards the end of the last year and obviously 'Not Perfect' was released through Emerging Icons early this year, so we felt it was time to get something new out there, three songs of your finest strength. We really can't wait. I'm listening to a rough mix from the studio now and singing along like an out of tune X-Factor retard.
Did you try out any new material? If so what was the name of the songs?
Andy - We did a whole new set! Haha, we're a rock n' roll band but we decided to do something a little bit special so we cut out the distortion, left the pedals at home and a performed a stripped down version of our usual set. We were really pleased with the way it came out, so much so that we are recording an EP around one of the tracks!
Did you have any pick-up from industry or press as a result of the Emerging Icons Olympics gig?
JJ - I haven't got a fucking clue, I don't read the papers and I just bought a dog so if we do have any around the house, we lay them down for him to do his business on. We met Lucio from XFM and Absolute Radio there and he's given us some really nice feedback... them quotes are going straight next the others in the 'IC1s School of Fucking Brilliant'.
If so - what effect will that have on your music career over the next 6-12 months?
Andy - That remains to be seen, hopefully a major one. Emerging Icons are great at what they do, creating a platform for new and exciting music to be heard not only by the public but also by the industry. Plus we know we have the anthems so really... we're making their job very easy for them. Haha.
What's the plan for the remainder of 2012?
Dan- We're hoping that Professor Brian Cox will manage us so we can play on the moon, it'll be out of this world.
This is the place you want to be coming back to whenever you need to catch up with our Headliners... but if it's tunes from IC1s you're looking for, head over to their Emerging Icons profile here.
