Woman Dies After Being Hit By A Car Near I'm A Celebrity Castle In Wales

Sharn Iona Hughes' family said she had been trying to take a photo of the castle for a friend before the accident.

A woman has died after being hit by a car near the castle where the current series of I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! is being filmed.

Sharn Iona Hughes was hit by a vehicle near Gwrych Castle in North Wales, where her family said she was trying to take photos of the site.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement (via North Wales Live), her family said: “Sharn passed away on November 21 at roughly 5pm on the A547 Abergele Road, whilst attempting to see the lights at Gwrych Castle.

“Sharn was the youngest daughter of John & Gloria (nee Garbutt) Bevan and she was the devoted wife of Elfyn Hughes, and loving mother to Arron & Annah Hughes.”

They continued: “Her family and friends are in total shock and perplexed by her tragic death and wish to say the following about their loss.

“Sharn was so selfless, and had such a joyous, charitable attitude to life. She was in the process of organising deliveries of hampers to the local food bank through the Women’s Institute. We’ll miss her kindness forever.

“Her curiosity led to her wanting to see the lights at Gwrych Castle, which unfortunately led to her untimely tragic death along a very busy road.”

Sharn’s family added that she had been “hoping to take a photo” of the castle to send to a friend, urging others to “take so much care and remember it is a busy main A class road”.

North Wales police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the A547 Abergele Road near Llanddulas in which a woman has sadly died.

“We received a report at 5.06pm on Saturday of a collision involving a female pedestrian and a blue Volvo estate car at a location known as Middle Gate. A woman from the local area was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver of the Volvo was left shocked, but uninjured by the collision.”

North Wales Live has reported that the road in question previously had a 60mph speed limit, which has been lowered to 30mph since the tragedy.

A Conwy Council spokeswoman also told the local news outlet: “We are aware of the tragic incident on A547 between Llanddulas and Abergele on Saturday evening. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently being investigated by North Wales Police. It would be inappropriate to speculate on the circumstances before the police have had an opportunity to conclude their investigations.”

I’m A Celebrity is currently filming at the Welsh site after moving from its usual location in the Australian jungle due to the coronavirus pandemic.
