A police officer injured in an incident at a pub in Leeds was being treated in hospital, his Police Federation has said.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed an "incident" took place outside the Omnibus pub in Middleton shortly before 7pm on Friday.

The force would not confirm reports suggesting it was a hit-and-run.

Local reports said the pub was open for the last time on Friday before being demolished.

On its Facebook page, West Yorkshire Police Federation said the officer had been"hospitalised".

The page added: "Our thoughts are with our injured colleague at this time and we will be providing whatever support we can to the officer.

"We wish him a speedy recovery."

On Twitter, the force's police and crime commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson said he echoed those words, adding he was "saddened to hear of this incident and wish #WYP colleague a speedy recovery".

Locals said the scene of the incident was still cordoned off.
