The sun has arrived, and a new light is cast into our homes, calling for a fresh look at our interiors. Similar to fashion, it's unlikely that many of us can get a whole new wardrobe each season, so it is all about ways of updating our spaces with small accessories - and perhaps a few big splurges along the way! I've picked three of my favourite trends appearing this Spring and Summer, along with a few 'Rich Pickings' to integrate them into your home.
Everything's Coming Up Roses
With the arrival of summer, interiors are always going to call for more colour, and florals are almost certainly going to be blooming in stores this year. There's a focus on rose colour, with an element of heritage - seen in watercolour prints, coloured glass and pastel fabrics. The key for transferring this trend to your home, will be to add a an edge, so it doesn't wash out your interior. By incorporating a item of bold colour or strong pattern, you can lift this look and give a more eclectic feel.
Au Naturel
With any home, the feel and the texture of the items in it are just as important as the look. So this trend sees natural textures, such as wood and wool introduces into spaces with a muted colour palette. Ways to integrate this with a more modern space would be to look for uniform objects, with more incidental patterns such as a vase with cracked glaze. Also objects that use natural material in a man-made process, such as weaving, gives a fusion of natural with uniformity.
On The Block
This trend looks at strong shapes and clean finishes, being bold and contemporary. Wire frames, coated in bright colours can be paired with geometric shapes to balance out the more heavy feel. This trend certainly has the potential to go colour overboard, so a mix of pattern and colour can be used to strike up the correct balance. For instance, choose a few key items of colour and then compliment them with a white ceramic or pale geometric print.
