Horrific pictures have emerged of the moment Islamic State (IS) sentenced a gay man to death before throwing him from the roof of a building.

The 'court' reads the sentence

The terrorist organisation, also known as ISIS and ISIL, published the pictures along with a statement explaining the incident which appears to have happened in Northern Iraq.

They said: "The Islamic court in Wilayet al-Furat decided that a man who has practised sodomy must be thrown off the highest point in the city."

IS have used the same technique to murder at least three other people accused of being gay in the last month alone.

In November IS stoned to death two men accused of having "unlawful" sexual intercourse after explicit videos were allegedy found on one of their mobile phones, reports the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

IS continue to hold ground in Syria and Northern Iraq and impose a strict interpretation of Sunni Islam.

The US-led coalition fighting the group recently pledged an extra 1,500 troops to help combat their spread.

So far the Iraqi army has proved ineffectual in fighting the group despite the US spending billions of dollars on training and equipment over a number of years.

Lt Gen James Terry, in charge of overseeing efforts to combat IS, told the BBC: "While [the Iraqi security forces] have a long way to go I think they're becoming more capable every day.

"When you start now to balance the different capabilities out across the coalition, I think we're doing pretty well in terms of boots on the ground."
