ITV has been forced to remove a new flagship documentary from its Player after admitting footage from an IRA propaganda video was actually a computer game.
Documentary ‘Exposure’ which was screened on Monday claimed to focus on links between the Republican movement and Libyan dictator Colonel Gadaffi’s regieme.
But footage which producers identified as “IRA film 1988” were actually from a game called ArmA 2.
During the clip a voiceover says: “With Gaddafi’s heavy machine-guns, it was possible to shoot down a helicopter – as the terrorists’ own footage from 1988 shows.”
PC gamer was the first to alert viewers to the mistake which ITV said was a “unfortunate result of human error.”
In a statement ITV said: "The events featured in Exposure: Gaddafi and the IRA were genuine but it would appear that during the editing process the correct clip of the 1988 incident was not selected and other footage was mistakenly included in the film by producers.
"This was an unfortunate case of human error for which we apologise.".
