A 19-year-old youth has been jailed for eight months after taking his mum's car after a drinking session and writing it off.
Burnley Crown Court heard that uninsured Matthew Loughlin, who did not have a driving licence, had a passenger with him when he wrote the car off in August this year.
He then abandoned the vehicle, which the Lancashire Telegraph reports was then subsequently torched when he fled the scene.
Loughlin was said to have previously been give 'chance after chance' by the courts, after he was given two suspended sentences as well as periods of detention since November 2012.
The teenager, from Nelson, Lancashire, admitted aggravated vehicle taking. As well as being handed down a custodial sentence, he was also banned from driving for two years.
