A post-mortem examination carried out on Saturday showed Medina was the victim of an assault, but it is not yet clear what caused his death.

Medina’s next of kin have been informed.

His heartbroken flatmate told the Standard: “At the moment we don’t know anything at all about how he met his death.

“All we know is that his body was found in Hyde Park and he had injuries. Basically someone had beaten him up and he was left with these severe injuries.

“It is too early to say what happened - it was only two days ago. But we had been living together for 11 years.

“I have been with the detectives ever since trying to figure out what happened.

Police cordons were put in place at the scene, which is near the mosaic to commemorate The Reformers’ Tree in Hyde Park.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command have launched a murder investigation.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
