Since James Corden announced that he and co-writer Ruth Jones have penned a brand new episode of Gavin And Stacey, fans have been sharing all manner of things they want to see in the special.

During a new interview in The Sunday Times, James remained frustratingly tight-lipped about what’s in store for fans, but he did have a few teasers about what we should expect from the hour-long Christmas episode.

First off, he hinted that there will be a tribute to Margaret John, the actress fans of the show fell in love with for playing Stacey’s outrageous neighbour Doris, who died in 2011.

He also insisted that Brexit is a no-go area for the episode, explaining: “We did talk about [having a scene about Brexit]. But we just want the new show to be a nostalgic joy-bomb.”

James did have some thoughts about how the characters would have voted, though, saying that while he felt Gavin and Nessa would be Remainers, Smithy and Stacey would have voted Leave.

Finally, when asked by Sunday Times whether this would be the moment viewers find out what happened on Uncle Bryn and Jason’s notorious and oft-alluded-to fishing trip, James apparently boomed: “I’m never going to tell you!”

It was also revealed in the interview that the new Gavin And Stacey Christmas special has been two years in the making, but finally committed to the project two months ago when he and Ruth came up with a story.

Larry Lamb – who plays Mick, Gavin’s dad – recently revealed that fans should expect an emotional reunion, revealing: “It’s amazing what he and Ruth have managed to do. I’ve finally read the script and it really... it got me.

“I just started to read the first little sequence and I just found myself crying. It was like running into somebody that was a major part of your life and you’re just so happy about it.

“It didn’t really matter what they were doing, it wasn’t funny, it wasn’t anything, it was just so poignant and they were immediately into the feeling of the whole thing, and it just took me along.”
