Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools have enlisted the help of a night nurse, because the sleep deprivation following the birth of the fifth child, River Rocket, had hit them hard.
Oliver revealed they hired the night nanny last week, as they had been “battered” by broken sleep.
“Sleep deprivation makes the most wonderful people just unreasonable,” he said, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live on Wednesday 21 September.
“It’s really, really hard whether it’s your first or your fifth.”
Oliver added that they hadn’t hired a night nurse with any of their other children - Poppy Honey, 14, Daisy Boo, 12, Petal Blossom, seven, and Buddy Bear, six - but the combined stress of 15 hour days of filming and caring for their bigger brood had taken its toll.
“But every mother and father - especially the mothers - have their own way and I hope they all find their own way,” he added.
Night nannies typically arrive at a family’s home in the evening and are on duty to assist the family throughout the night.
The extra sleep is certainly putting the family in a happy mood - as Oliver shared a photo of River’s first smile on Thursday 22 September.
“River’s first proper smile,” he wrote in the caption. “Brilliant who knows what’s going though his head but I like it.”
