Jeremy Clarkson is to return for a new series at the helm of ITV’s ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’.
Earlier this year, Clarkson hosted a handful of episodes of the popular quiz show to commemorate its 20th anniversary, and it’s now been announced that a full 10-episode run has now been commissioned.
He said: “I absolutely loved hosting the anniversary shows and cannot wait to spend a few precious hours away from James May and Richard Hammond, making the new ones.”
Airing early next year, ‘Millionaire’ will be back in the same format as its most recent run, with the three lifelines from back in the day (‘50:50’, ‘Phone A Friend’ and ‘Ask The Audience’), as well as the return of the new addition ‘Ask The Host’.
However, we’re not sure quite how popular ‘Ask The Host’ will be second time around, following Clarkson’s infamous blunder during his recent ‘Millionaire’ stint, when he prematurely told a contestant they were through to the next round of the quiz, based on his own knowledge, only for it to emerge they’d actually got the answer wrong.
‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ marked Clarkson’s return to terrestrial TV, after the notorious “fracas” that cost him his job on the BBC’s ‘Top Gear’ back in 2015.
Since then he and his former co-presenters, Richard Hammond and James May, signed a new deal with streaming service Amazon Prime, to host the car show ‘The Grand Tour’, the third series of which is currently in the works.
‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ originally aired on ITV for 16 years, with Chris Tarrant as its host, until the show came to an end in 2014.
