People were loving her Patsy Stone-inspired look, however.

Sunday night’s Baftas may have opened with a performance to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, but sadly that didn’t seem to help host Joanna Lumley with landing a joke.

The host’s quips failed to set either the Royal Albert Hall or social media alight as she opened the ceremony with a tongue-in-cheek roll call of who was in attendance.

Joanna seemed to have been let down by her scriptwriters as her jokes fell flat with the A-list audience, who remained almost silent throughout her monologue.

But given we all know what a comedy legend Joanna is, it was her script writer who bore the brunt of criticism on social media...

One thing people were loving a whole lot more was Joanna’s Absolutely Fabulous-inspired look as she hosted the awards.

Many were delighted to see her looking remarkably similar to her character in the classic BBC sitcom, Patsy Stone.

It was Joanna’s second year at the helm of the show, having succeeded Stephen Fry as host last year.
