A Scotland Yard statement said Leslie “was charged by postal requisition on Wednesday, 5 June with sexual touching of a woman aged 16 or over, contrary to Section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.”

The 54-year-old star will now appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 25 July to face one count of sexual assault.

Leslie rose to fame after landing a presenting role on kids’ TV show Blue Peter in 1989.

He went on to host the likes of Wheel Of Fortune and Style Challenge, before he began hosting ITV daytime show This Morning alongside Fern Britton in 2000.

After leaving the show in 2002, he has rarely appeared on television since, but has hosted his own shows on Scottish radio in recent years.
