The MP who hit headlines after asking George Osborne the price of a pasty has voiced his outrage after his wife received a dead bird in the post.
Bassetlaw MP John Mann's wife, newly elected councillor for Worksop East, Jo, came home from her first council meeting to find the grisly discovery.
“I came home after the Council’s AGM and found a pile of post waiting for me. Whilst there was an unpleasant smell I thought nothing of it until I began opening the last package when the smell became so overwhelming I retched and felt really sick," she said.
"I put the package outside and called the police who have been absolutely brilliant. They opened the package up and found a decomposing dead bird. They took away the bird along with the package for DNA investigation. I really hope they find whoever did this”.
Her husband John Mann said it was "appalling" and he urged police to find the perpetrator and be given "the maximum punishment possible."
"Whilst we could take the quiet route and not say anything I want to make it absolutely clear that such behaviour is intolerable and we will not be intimidated by anyone."
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "We can confirm we are investigating this incident and our enquiries are on-going. Anyone with any information about this matter should telephone Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
