The news that Johnny Depp has landed a role in the ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ franchise has been met with mixed opinions.
The first of five new movies set in the ‘Harry Potter’ wizarding world is set for release this month, and it’s now been revealed that the actor will make a cameo in it, before taking over as the lead star in the sequel.
The ‘Mortdecai’ actor was once hot property in Hollywood, but he’s hit headlines for a number of negative reasons this year, namely his acrimonious divorce from Amber Heard.
That, paired with the fact his latest efforts have failed to shine at the box office, has led many to question whether the casting could be a bad move:
However, not everyone is disappointed with the decision:
Depp and Heard’s divorce played out in the public eye and, despite the fact they reached an out of court settlement deal, things were far from amicable.
When they first split, Amber successfully petitioned for a restraining order against her husband, accusing him of domestic abuse.
Neither Johnny nor Amber ever publicly discussed the accusations and when the settlement was reached, a joint statement read: “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love.
“Neither party has lied nor made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”
Amber then split her £5 million settlement money between two charities, a children’s hospital, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), specifying that the cash would be used to work to “stop violence against women”.
