The recent mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, has sparked a national debate in the US about the Confederate flag - a symbol of the Southern army which tried to secede from the United States so they could keep using slave labour.
Despite this grisly bit if history, many Southerners consider the flag to be a symbol of patriotism, completely ignoring the racist undertones. Jon Stewart has perfectly summed up why it's time for everyone to stop using that flag.
"They fought for the South against the United States because of slavery. That's the heritage you're defending. I'm sure your soldier ancestors had other redeeming qualities, but this is the thing that they're known for," he said. "It’d be like saying you support flying the Nazi flag because you’re proud of their robust anti-smoking agenda. But that wasn’t really their thing."
So what flag can go up in its place? Stewart suggests something we can all get behind: a pig on fire - honouring the creation of barbecue.
"That's probably how barbecue was invented," he said. "Ingenious southerners saw a pig on fire and thought, 'I can work with this.'"
