Ms Trevis, from the Weoley Castle area of the city, was pronounced dead at the scene around 30 minutes later.

Her friend Trevor Titley told the Birmingham Mail: “It’s just shocking, I can’t believe this could happen to her.

“She was the most innocent, happy-go-lucky girl."

Oakes was arrested by police officers who found him in a garden in nearby Allens Farm around 10 hours after the attack.

He was charged by detectives last night and will appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court later on Thursday morning.
