Kris Commons Criticises Teammate Efe Ambrose After Celtic Lose To Juventus

'If He Felt Good Then He Should Have Put In A Better Performance'

Kris Commons has said Celtic teammate Efe Ambrose "should have put in a better performance" after the defender experienced a nightmare evening in the club's 3-0 Champions League defeat to Juventus.

Ambrose gifted Alessandro Matri an early goal and lost possession seconds before Mirko Vucinic hit Juventus' third. He also spurned a presentable chance when he headed straight at Gianluigi Buffon when the scoreline was 0-1.

The Nigerian arrived in Glasgow on the day of the game after winning the African Cup of Nations with his country, but despite fears of fatigue Commons claimed Ambrose felt "brilliant".

"Look, the manager picked him. The manager pulled him to one side and asked him if he was feeling okay. He said he was feeling brilliant," Commons said

"If he wasn't feeling okay then he should have said so. If he felt good then he should have put in a better performance."

Victor Wanyama also missed a good headed opportunity while his teammates had a number of half chances only for all of them to be fired straight at Buffon.

Commons added there were "certain individuals who let the team down" as the second leg takes the guise of a dead rubber.

"It was just very sloppy individual mistakes - something you'd probably get away with on a playground, not in the last 16 of the Champions League," he added.

Commons was unable to breach Juventus' rearguard

"Hopefully this is just a one-off. The back four have made errors which have probably cost us the tie. But it's partly down to them why we're here in the first place.

"It's just a bitter one to swallow."
