Labour's civil war led to further embarrassment today when the party had no Shadow Business Secretary to quiz Sajid Javid in the Commons.
Angela Eagle resigned from the role yesterday lunchtime, but 24 hours later no replacement had been announced.
That meant that despite the uncertainty in the business world caused by last week's Brexit vote, Labour did not have a Shadow Business Secretary on the frontbench to quiz the actual Business Secretary in the Commons this afternoon.
Chi Onwurah, a Shadow Junior Business Minister, stepped up to the Despatch Box to lead Labour's questioning, but it was unclear if she was now Javid's equivalent.
Javid said: "I was hoping to welcome the Honourable Lady as the new Shadow Business Secretary but I understand she is not in that position yet.
"If her leader is having problems filling that position I would be happy to make some suggestions."
Labour HQ were unable to tell the HuffPost UK who the party's Business spokesperson now was, and a spokesman for Jeremy Corbyn said it would be announced soon.
