Labour MP Lilian Greenwood has said members of local Labour Party have emailed her abuse after she explained why she was backing Owen Smith over Jeremy Corbyn in the leadership race.
The former shadow transport secretary, who is MP for Nottingham South, tweeted exampled of some of the messages she has been sent.
Last month Greenwood attacked Corbyn for having undermined her during her spell in the shadow cabinet.
Greenwood admitted that even though she had not backed Corbyn for leader last year she “tried to make it work” for the nine months she served under him.
She added that it was “impossible” to do her job because Corbyn is “not a team player let alone a team leader.”
Speaking in a Labour leadership debate last night, Corbyn condemned abuse. “You’ll never find me using bad language on individuals,” he said.
But Smith accused Corbyn of not doing enough to shut down abuse. “I want the people who are jeering Jeremy to keep quiet,” he told the crowd. “He should have told people who were jeering me to keep quiet.”
