The Labour Party’s press team says its Twitter account was “hacked” after a message was posted accusing the party of being “institutionally racist”.

The post, which was swiftly deleted, emerged as a BBC Panorama documentary was broadcast that investigated anti-Semitism in the Jeremy Corbyn-led party.

The intial tweet read: “There we have it folks, proof if any was needed that the Labour Party IS institutionally racist and will be until Corbyn and his cronies go”.

A tweet was soon after posted indicting the account had been “re-secured”.

The party denied the Panorama claims that key Corbyn allies interfered in Labour’s disciplinary process to try and “downgrade” serious cases of anti-Semitism.

Eight former Labour officials spoke to Panorama, including four who have signed non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) on the subject of anti-Semitism, according to the BBC.

Before the hack, the Labour press team spent much of the broadcast tweeting rebuttals to the allegations.

But the message had already been seized on by social media users.
