The Last Night of the Proms, long known for its sense of tradition, is to take a high-tech leap - by being broadcast in 3D for the first time.
The concert, the climax to the classical concert series, will be screened on the BBC HD channel.
It has been added to a number of major events which are being covered in 3D as part of a two-year experiment by the corporation.

Eight specialist cameras will be positioned in the Royal Albert Hall in London for the concert, which the BBC said would give "audiences at home the best seats in the house and provide an immersive experience".
They will include a spot in front of the conductor, while a remote camera which can rotate 180 degrees will be positioned in the orchestra itself during the concert on 8 September.
Last year's BBC1 series Planet Dinosaur is also to be screened in 3D for the first time in August after teams of specialists hand crafted the footage for the new format.
The BBC has previously announced the Wimbledon ladies' and men's singles finals will be shown in 3D this weekend, as they were last year. And selected Olympics events - including the opening and closing ceremonies and the Men's 100m final - will also be screened in the format.
Kim Shillinglaw, head of BBC 3D, said: "Bringing Planet Dinosaur and The Last Night of the Proms to audiences enable us to test the technology across various genres and establish where 3D really enhances the viewers' experience."
Viewers will need to have a 3D TV set and access to the BBC HD channel.
