At just four years old, a young girl is making her mark by trying to change the gender representation in her favourite magazine.
Her dad, actor Samuel West, tweeted that she loved Lego, football, and the colour blue – and was recently excited to get her hands on the new Lego City magazine.
“Then, she noticed that of the 29 people who talk in it, only one is female,” West tweeted. “And she speaks once, to agree with a man. So my daughter wrote [Lego] a letter.”
West tweeted a photo of his daughter’s letter, which reads: “To Lego magazine people, can you put some more girls in your magazine please?”
Within a few minutes of posting, West’s tweet had already garnered hundreds of likes and comments from people agreeing with his four-year-old daughter.
Lego replied to West on Twitter that evening, writing: “We think your daughter rocks! We look forward to receiving her letter. Like you, we believe Lego play is for everyone and that our magazines need to reflect that.
“We’ll review future editions to make sure this is the case. We hope your daughter always loves Lego, football and blue.”
A spokesperson for Lego also told HuffPost UK: “We have read the note from the amazing 4-year old girl and all agree that she has a good point. We truly believe that the magazine and Lego bricks are for everyone, boys and girls alike.”
The spokesperson also said that as a consequence of the young girl’s letter, Lego will also be extending an invitation to her to help them edit an upcoming issue of the magazine. “Providing her parents allow her to do this, we’re confident that she can help us improve the magazine and that we can learn a lot from her… after all, children are our role models.”
