A rotten tooth, said to belong to John Lennon, is going up for auction on Saturday. The cavity-ridden, discoloured molar is expected to raise £10,000 at least, according to the auctioneers in Stockport.
No DNA tests have been done on the tooth because it is so fragile but it was reportedly given by Lennon to his former housekeeper, Dot Jarlett, in the mid-1960s when they were in the kitchen of his house.
"He was very generous to my mother," Jarlett's son, Barry, told the BBC. "He treated her like family because he didn't really have a very big family and he really looked after my mum. He used to call her Aunty Dot."
Jarlett said that Lennon gave his mother many gifts over the years, such as a pearl necklace from Japan.
Creation Records founder Alan McGee is selling the tooth as part of his rock memorabilia auction. He is also selling items from Oasis, the band he discovered in 1993. McGee could make up to £150,000 from selling his collection. He told NME that he is selling his collection because he "can't be arsed with music anymore".
