Dramatic pictures have showed a major road interchange submerged in flood water in south-east London after the capital was battered by heavy rain.
Loampit Vale, next to Lewisham’s DLR station, was flooded as the recent heatwave came to a spectacular end.
Transport for London’s traffic account warned that the area was “underwater” in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
It also warned drivers: "Road is now impassable both ways by Lewisham roundabout. Not worth trying to drive through, don't be that guy!"
This was accompanied by a picture of a motorist whose car was quickly being submerged by the flood waters.
The A20 was closed in both directions in the area while clean-up teams attended.
It reopened later but traffic continued to move slowly.
DLR services between Deptford Bridge and Lewisham also reopened after services were cancelled due to the flooding.
A yellow warning for serious weather has been issued by the Met Office for heavy rain across London.
Further afield, half a month’s worth of rain fell across the Home Counties overnight, according to the Mail.
This is in contrast to the weekend, which saw Britons bask in temperatures of up to 26C.
