A father who murdered his seven-week-old son when he was left alone with him for 20 minutes has been jailed for life.
Ian Hutchinson, 25, must serve a minimum of 12 years for the murder of baby Kieron.
The baby suffered catastrophic brain damage when he was left with his father while his mother and grandmother went shopping.
The trial at Sheffield Crown Court heard that the defendant may have inflicted the fatal injuries out of frustration because he did not have everything he needed to change his son's nappy.
Hutchinson, of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was found guilty of murder last week.
Mr Justice MacDuff told Hutchinson: "You have been convicted, on overwhelming evidence, of the murder of your baby son, seven weeks old and committed to your sole care.
"For the short time he was alone with you, he was wholly and solely reliant upon you. It is clear to me that because he cried or required changing, or perhaps because of frustration felt by you at having no baby wipes readily to hand, you lost control of yourself and so violently brought his head into contact with some hard surface that you caused him the catastrophic injuries from which he died.
"You also shook him violently causing further injury which made its contribution to his death some four days later. Only you know exactly what went on inside that house on September 3 last year."
The judge said he accepted it was a "spur of the moment loss of temper" and that he did not intend to kill.
He added: "I also accept that you were immediately full of remorse, although that remorse has to be seen alongside an attempt to distance yourself from what you did and a failure to acknowledge your responsibility. You are a young man. You were just 23 years old when you committed this offence. You are not, I accept, an evil person."
