Lily Allen Jokes That She Was 'Robbed' Of Mercury Prize After Wolf Alice Win

'Someone call 999 I've been robbed.'

Lily Allen has joked that she was “robbed” of the 2018 Mercury Prize, after losing out to alternative rock band Wolf Alice

The awards show had seen a plethora of emotions – most notably, after the North London four-piece’s win was announced, the camera cut to Lily in tears. But the star was understandably still in her feelings after the event.

Taking to Twitter just after 11pm, the 33-year-old star shared a video of her stripped-back performance with the caption: “Someone call 999 I’ve been robbed.”

The tone of Lily’s tweet was a little tricky to pick up on – we’re not sure whether it was a full-blown light-hearted joke, or tinged with a touch of resentment. But we hope she’s okay and getting the post-awards TLC she needs.

The star’s fourth album, ‘No Shame’, which saw her nominated for the award, broke into the UK Top Ten earlier this year, and peaking at number eight.

The album followed her divorce from Sam Cooper, which she said coincided with an identity crisis in which she no longer was connecting with the music she was making. As a result, the album covers themes of relationship breakdown, substance abuse and social and political issues.

The annual prize is one of the most coveted in the industry, with winners invariably seeing international recognition, as well as receiving £25,000.

The winning album, ‘Visions of A Life’, is Wolf Alice’s second studio album.
