The flame-haired supermodel turned actress said she was called names like 'carrot-top' and 'ginger' by mean kids when she was growing up.
Devon-born Lily was discovered as a model when she was just 14, after a chance encounter with a scout in London.
Currently in Cannes promoting her latest film, Snow White and the Huntsman, the now strawberry-blonde star said that although the name-calling sounded 'quite trivial' it was the nastiness behind it that hurt:
"It's not so much the words, it's the meanness behind saying such things to a child," she said.
But mega-successful Lily, 24, added that no matter what she went through growing up, she adores her tumbling titian mane now:
"The irony is that now I love my hair," she said.
We love Lily's hair too - are you a red-head who has endured teasing over your hair? Or do you have red-headed children who you fear might get mean-spirited comments about their colouring?
