The Most Beautiful Photographs You'll See All Night

At first glance these pictures look like something that greets you at the end of a kaleidoscope.

But these marvels are the product of up to 15 hours of shooting the stars in the Aussie outback.

The swirling spectacles were snapped using long exposure lenses on a Nikon D7000 and a Nikon D3100 camera by Australian photographer Lincoln Harrison who spends hours shooting the night sky armed with an array of lenses.

He then joins hundreds of images of the foreground and the stars together to create the magnificent star trail pictures of beauty spots near Lake Eppalock in the southern state of Victoria. The colourful spirals are the result of the Earth moving, creating the impression that the stars are travelling across the night sky.

Harrison, 37 said, he often photographed the stars at Lake Eppalock, as the clear skies provided the perfect conditions for him to capture the perfect picture.

"I bought my first camera in October 2010, a Nikon D3100, because I wanted something decent for general picture taking and to sell clothes on EBay.

"I wasn't planning on getting into photography as a hobby but a week later I had about eight lenses and all the other goodies, I couldn't wait to get started.

"I've been shooting at least two or three times a week ever since, mainly landscapes, and star trails when the conditions are right, I'm lucky enough to live not too far from the outback.

"With no buildings for miles the sky is so clear and it's amazing to be able to capture the beauty of the night's sky on camera."
