Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the Line Of Duty series five finale.
While fans’ theories that Line Of Duty’s Ted Hastings was the mysterious ‘H’ have now proven to be incorrect, the AC-12 boss is still the hot favourite to be revealed as the next corrupt officer.
The most recent series focussed heavily on the quest to unmask ‘H’, though the series finale revealed the codename was not actually for a person, but a clue pointing to four police staff in league with organised crime.
However, even though Hastings’ name was cleared, it looks like he’s still not to be trusted, with bookies already naming him as their top pick to be the fourth corrupt officer in a future episode.
Betfair have put him as 4/1 to be secretly corrupt, behind Kate Fleming (9/2) Andrea Wise and Rohan Sindhwani (both of whom are on 6/1).
A spokesman for the betting organisation said: “Three corrupt police officers have already been revealed and the main question that came out of Sunday’s episode of Line of Duty is who is the final one?
“He might not be ‘H’, but we don’t think the trouble ends there for Ted Hastings and we make him the 4/1 favourite to be the fourth and final conspirator.”
They added: “With Line of Duty you can never been sure which way it’s going to turn and as such there are so many potential candidates, with Kate Fleming (9/2) and Sam Railston at 15/2 among those under the spotlight.”
While legal counsel Gill Biggeloe was revealed as framing Hastings as ‘H’ during the final episode, a spokesperson for Line Of Duty confirmed to HuffPost UK that suspicions about Hastings had been left deliberately vague ahead of the sixth series.
Writer and creator Jed Mercurio later told Digital Spy that questions about Hastings potentially being corrupt is something that “going forward, we may want to explore”.
At present, there’s still no air date for a sixth series of Line Of Duty, with Sunday night’s gripping finale becoming the most-watched show of 2019.
The BBC has already confirmed that there will be at least one more series of Line Of Duty, while producer Jed Mercurio’s other hit series Bodyguard is also at the centre of much speculation about whether it’ll be getting a follow-up.
