Lionel Messi One Goal Shy Of Equalling Barcelona's All-Time Goalscoring Record

Leo The Lion To Become King?

Lionel Messi is two goals shy of becoming Barcelona's all-time leading goalscorer.

The 24-year-old is just one behind current holder Cesar Rodriguez's 232-goal haul, with Barca set to play Granada at Camp Nou in La Liga this evening.

Rodriguez's tally was revised after the club and La Vanguardia newspaper conducted a joint study to clarify Rodriguez's tally from the 1950s.

Barca then stated on their website he had scored three less than record books initially suggested.

Messi scores the first of many:

Coincidentally Rodriguez was loaned out to Granada in 1939 before he returned to Catalonia to fire Barcelona to 13 major trophies during his 16-year playing association with the club.

He left for Cultural Leonesa in 1955, meaning his record has stood for 57 years, but returned as coach of the club from 1963-64

Messi has scored a gargantuan 51 goals this season so far and is on course not just to surpass last season's personal best of 53, but to hit the 60 mark.

The Argentinian is the two-time reigning Fifa Ballon d'Or winner and has won five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, two Club World Cups and one Copa del Rey during his seven-and-a-half-years in the Blaugrana first-team.
