Margaret Wiggett, 77, is to retire as Britain's longest serving lollipop lady after an astonishing 46 years in the job.

Margaret has been at the same school pelican crossing since 1965, and has only missed TWO work shifts in that time, one for a cataract operation, and another when her husband died.

Great-grandmother Margaret - who was made an MBE in 1995 for her services - says the time has come to hang-up her lollipop:

"It's been a pleasure but I knew I had to quit - I'm petrified of ice and I have sciatica."

Kim Hall, the headteacher of Stopsley Primary in Luton where Margaret worked said: "We're fortunate to have had such a dedicated lady. We shall miss her."

Wow! What a work record.

Imagine the changes Margaret must have seen in kids since 1965!
