A London train service was delayed on Wednesday after its driver managed to get locked in the toilet.

Southeastern Railway apologised for a delay to its Bromley to London Victoria service after the unfortunate employee got stuck in the onboard convenience.

The company announced the delay to passengers on Twitter – complete with a Simpsons GIF.

The Bromley South train was scheduled to head to London Victoria at approximately 10.49am, but was subject to a five minute delay while the driver was freed.

Southeastern posted: “SERVICE UPDATE: the 10:49 Bromley South – Victoria was late departing Bromley south due to the driver becoming locked in the on board toilet. This train 5 minutes late. Sorry for the delay caused.”

The tweet resulted in an outpouring of amused responses.

One user, Lizzi Hill, posted: “I’d be annoyed if I was on this train but as an innocent bystander on twitter, this had cracked me up.”

Another, Karen Cross, wrote: “You couldn’t make it up!!!!!”
