Lord Heseltine was left embarrassed after a phone call from his wife interrupted him midflow during an appearance on the BBC's Question Time programme on Thursday evening.
The former Conservative deputy prime minister was giving his view as to why the Budget deficit was still growing despite austerity measures when a loud ringing suddenly emanated from his jacked pocket.
"There's a telephone going off," exclaimed host David Dimbleby.
And fellow panelist Rev Dr Giles Fraser asked in astonishment: "Who is that, it's your wife, is that your wife?"
As the audience laughed, Lord Heseltine quickly moved to turn off his phone before adding: “My wife is supporting what I have been saying, she is just letting me know.”
