Lord Richard Attenborough Dead: We Salute A True Cinema Great With 9 Of His Finest Films

Remembering Richard Attenborough Through His Finest Films
|

The news of Lord Attenborough's death at the age of 90 brings to a close the life of one of British cinema's most enduring, versatile and tireless talents.

From his cherubic face - deceptive as it emerged - in the 1947 adaptation of Graham Greene's creepy drama 'Brighton Rock', to his far more customary, cuddly appearance in 'Miracle on 34th Street' - via a scene-stealing turn in 'Jurassic Park' - Richard Attenborough made his mark in nearly 80 films.

Despite this huge catalogue, it was when he turned to directing that he garnered most acclaim, earning a Best Director Oscar for his epic 'Gandhi' - it took eight Oscars in all - and a clutch of BAFTAs that lined his mantelpiece at his beautiful home in Richmond-upon-Thames.

Last year, on his 90th birthday, we paid tribute to one of the greats of British cinema, both in front and behind the camera, with this mere sniff at his work - nine of his most memorable films, one for each decade... no small task faced with the extraordinary body of work he has left behind.
