TV watchdog Ofcom has confirmed they have received nearly 200 complaints about Love Island contestants Amber Gill and Anna Vakili’s behaviour.
Tuesday night’s episode of the ITV2 reality show saw the pair clash with Danny Williams following the departure of his ex-partner Yewande Biala, taking him to task for for kissing Arabella Chi just moments after Yewande’s exit.
At the time of writing, 192 complaints had been made by viewers of the episode, with a spokesperson confirming “the majority” were over Danny’s treatment.
Ofcom confirmed to HuffPost they would be assessing the complaints before deciding whether or not to investigate, as is standard procedure.
The villa was also split right down the middle after Danny decided to couple up with Arabella, sending Yewande home as a result.
Viewers were similarly divided over Amber and Anna’s reaction, which saw Amber confront him before Anna repeatedly dismissed him as he defended himself.
Many complained the pair were acting childishly...
Former Islander Chris Hughes, who appeared on the show in 2017, even went as far to suggest they were bullying Danny.
He tweeted: “He’s actually being bullied. It’s fucking wrong on every level. Don’t care who you are. That’s mean.
“Making me feel sad and sick watching it,” he added.
However, many others defended the pair from criticism, pointing out that they were sticking up for their friend who Danny had treated badly.
HuffPost has contacted a Love Island spokesperson for comment and is awaiting a response.
It is not the first time the ITV2 show has attracted criticism this year.
Earlier in the series, Ofcom received more than 800 complaints in just three days due to various incidents in the villa, including the Islanders’ treatment of Lucie Donlan and Maura Higgins’ advances to Tommy Fury.
