Love Island: Curtis Pritchard's Dad Reveals Contestants' Families Are Offered Counselling By ITV

The ITV2 show made big changes to their aftercare ahead of the 2019 series.

Curtis Pritchard’s dad has revealed that Love Island contestants’ families are also being offered counselling by ITV.

It’s been widely reported that producers re-evaluated their aftercare system ahead of this year’s series, following the suicides of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis in the space of 12 months.

This includes a minimum of eight therapy sessions after leaving the villa, as well as psychological help being available throughout their time on the show.

In addition to this, Curtis’ dad Adrian has told the Daily Star that ITV has extended this care to the families of the Islanders, who may be affected by seeing their loved ones on screen.

Counselling is on offer to us whenever we need it,” he explained. “There have been tough moments for us since Curtis went into the villa, but we can just ring for support at any time.

“The people at ITV say to us, ‘If there’s anything that’s worrying you, ring us, whatever the problem might be’.”

Adrian added: “I don’t think the general public are aware, but ITV are always in touch when something significant is going to air on the show that they feel might concern you.”

A spokesperson for the show added: “We have always ensured that the families of Islanders have the contact details of key members of our production team and there is always an open line of communication.

“We have always offered support to families where appropriate and when requested.”

Curtis has had a rocky time in the Love Island villa, initially winning over the public thanks to his romance with Amy Hart, but proving a more divisive figure when the relationship (well, half-relationship) came to an end.

After choosing to leave the villa of her own accord, Amy revealed that she visited the show’s resident psychologist a total of 12 times.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
