Love Island: Maura Branded A 'Hypocrite' As She Slates Elma Over Tom's Grafting

The Irish ring girl had seemingly forgotten doing the same thing to Molly-Mae just days earlier.

There’s no denying Maura Higgins has well and truly shaken things up since arriving in the Love Island villa, but it’s also fair to say her behaviour has raised a whole lot of eyebrows.

Fresh from making viewers feel uncomfortable with her advances on Tommy Fury last week, the Irish ring girl has now been branded a hypocrite by fans over her recent carry-on.

On Monday night’s show, viewers saw Maura go out on a date with new boy Tom Walker after Tommy put an end to their flirtation by officially coupling up with Molly-Mae Hague

While their date went rather well, Maura was left fuming when Tom later started grafting on Elma Pazar, making no secret of her unhappiness at seeing her friend getting to know Tom.

Despite being coupled up with Anton Danyluk, Elma insisted she wasn’t “going to rule out” seeing where things could go with Tom, leading Maura to proclaim she was “fucking annoyed” by the whole situation.

In a conversation with Molly-Mae (you know, the girl whose man she’d attempted to steal upon her own arrival in the villa), Maura insisted without a hint of sarcasm: “I wouldn’t do it to any of the other girls. I wouldn’t do it!”

Clearly not remembering her own behaviour just days prior, she also raged to Lucie Donlan: “What annoys me the most is that she’s coupled up with Anton, she has the chance. I’m not coupled up with anyone! I’ve not had the chance to couple up with anyone and she’s meant to be my fucking friend. Am I going to have to fight for him as well?”

The irony of what Maura was saying wasn’t lost on everyone watching at home, even if it was lost on her fellow Islanders...

While it remains to be seen who Tom will choose to couple up with, Maura’s previous behaviour towards Tommy has been continuing to make headlines.

On Monday, it was revealed some 486 people contacted TV watchdog Ofcom after she asked Tommy if she could kiss him, and when the boxer said no, she climbed on him and planted her lips on his check as he turned away.

Meanwhile, the regulator has also received over 300 complaints about the treatment of Lucie Donlan in the villa.

The complaints come after her partner Joe was criticised for “controlling behaviour” towards her, having told her to stay away from Tommy Fury.

Two charities also made statements on Joe’s conduct, after viewers made accusations of “gaslighting”, which is a form of emotional abuse where a person tries to gain power and control by planting seeds of uncertainty in someone else’s mind.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
