An inquest later heard she had taken her own life after consuming alcohol and cocaine.

On Thursday, the official Love Island Instagram page shared a picture of Sophie captioned: “In loving memory of Sophie Gradon (1985-2018), missed but never forgotten.”

Malin Andersson, who appeared in the same series as Sophie, shared a tribute on Twitter, writing: “RIP to the most beautiful soul and friend Sophie Gradon. Miss you so much. Please all look after each other up there.”

Sophie’s boyfriend, Aaron Armstrong, died three weeks after he found Sophie’s body, having also taken cocaine and alcohol.

The deaths of Sophie and Mike Thalassitis, who appeared on Love Island in 2017, have led to increased scrutiny on ITV over the reality show’s aftercare.

The broadcaster recently announced an enhanced duty of care process for participants on the show, which includes training on social media and financial management.

We’re just over two weeks into the current series and so far things have largely run smoothly, aside from Sherif Lanre’s exit via the back door last week

A number of interactions have sparked huge conversation online too, with viewers raising concerns over the treatment of Lucie Donlan by other contestants and Maura Higgins’ advances towards Tommy Fury.

These scenes have both resulted in Ofcom complaints.
