Luciana Berger has announced she has given birth to her second child.

The former Labour MP, who recently resigned from the party to form the Independent Group, shared her happy news on Twitter.

“Our baby boy arrived yesterday,” she wrote. “Alastair, Amélie and I are brimming with happiness.”

She also thanked the team at Liverpool Women’s hospital for looking after her “with so much care”.

Berger has served as an MP for Liverpool Wavertree since 2010. She was shadow minister for public health from 2013 to 2015, and then shadow minister for mental health from 2015 to 2016.

Berger announced her plan to leave the Labour party on 18 February, alongside several other MPs. It marked the biggest Labour split since the 1980s, when four senior figures quit to form the Social Democratic Party.

At eight and a half months pregnant, Berger impressed many by opening the press conference that announced the Labour split. Berger, who is Jewish, had previously spoken out against the Labour leader’s handling of anti-Semitism in the party.

Since announcing the birth of her second child, people have congratulated Berger, yet again, on what she achieved while pregnant.

And at PMQs, Corbyn congratulated Berger on the birth of her son.
