Madeleine McCann detectives want to carry out new tests on mystery DNA that could belong to her kidnapper.
The Metropolitan Police are expected to focus on 'vague' samples found in the then three-year-old's bedroom that do not belong to any of her family or workers at the Ocean Club holiday resort where she was staying who were tested at the time.
These samples have been kept on file in Portugal for seven years but, according to the Mirror, the Operation Grange team now plan to discuss new forensic ways of analysing that evidence.
They hope modern-day technology could help them match the samples, described as 'vague', with DNA taken from three new suspects who were questioned in July.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the cost of the search for Madeleine will top £10 million – double the original estimate.
The news came as a new Portuguese prosecutor takes charge of the hunt for Madeleine, who disappeared from her holiday apartment when she was three years old in 2007.
Ines Sequeira said he is 'utterly determined' to solve the case.
