Madonna has clarified her recent comments about coronavirus, after an Instagram post she shared last week led to a bit of confusion.
On Friday, the singer posted the latest update in her Quarantine Diary video series, in which she revealed she’d tested positive for coronavirus antibodies.
“So tomorrow I’m just going to go for a long drive in a car, and I’m going to roll down the window, and I’m going to breathe in, I’m going to breathe in the Covid-19 air,” she said. “Yup. I hope the sun is shining.”
While there’s a lot to unpick in that statement, one thing she definitely didn’t say was that she had tested positive for the virus itself, only antibodies, suggesting it was likely she’d had coronavirus at some point recently.
Unfortunately, some media outlets misinterpreted her comments and reported that she’d actually been diagnosed with Covid-19, which she has now insisted is not the case.
In a post shared on Wednesday night, Madonna revealed she had donated $1.1 million (£890,000) to coronavirus research, adding: “Just to clear things up for people who would rather believe sensationalist headlines than do their own research about the nature of this virus, I am not currently sick.”
Madonna added: “When you test positive for anti-bodies it means you HAD the virus which I clearly did as I was sick at the end of my tour in Paris over seven weeks ago along with many other artists in my show but at the time we all thought we had a very bad flu.
“Thank God we are all healthy and well now. Hope that clears things up for the band wagon jumpers!! Knowledge is Power!”
Earlier this year, the singer was forced to cut her ill-fated Madame X tour short, when government restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of the virus in Paris forbade large gatherings.
This was the latest in a string of roadblocks to hit the tour, including production issues and an undisclosed injury that led Madonna to cancel a string of dates and shorten several shows.
